It's been a few days since I've posted.
Orientation week was fairly ordinary to say the least, and the last day of it was rather quiet. And the freebies weren't there since the commercial stalls weren't present either. LOL. Oh well, I got my share of pens for the year haha.
We had a new fellow join up on the Friday to archery, which was pretty good, and the others in the club also cleaned out and re-arranged the locker, which was really good of them. I think they will do a fantastic job in carrying on the club once they get their minds into it.
Kendo on Friday was pretty good, we had a large number of interested people come and look, and we did some practice and a demonstration for them to watch and apparently 7 people signed up on the spot, so that is very promising, especially since their objective was to get 100 members for 2008, quite ambitious, but, if they do, HK Ward Gym will be packed each session.... Friday night we pretty much had a simple dinner at Broadway food court, then we crashed someones unit at Sydney Uni Village and we watched a movie, Meet the Spartans. A ok spoof of 300. I left early as Igave a lift to Lidcombe station for someone but the others stayed on to watch another movie.
Saturday training was with the State Kyu Squad. Initially we were supposed to have warmup together, then split into our own training, but we ended up being their practice partners. In a way, it was good as we did different exercises, new drills that they used, and we could see what level we were at against the state squad. It was a little physically challenging but I managed to survive through enough. But, I am rather sore right now haha.
And as for today, pretty much nothing doing. I watch another movie, Shes the Man, and older comedy. So so. Some cringeworthy moments though haha. I also fixed up my shinai and rotated the slats around as using my new 'standard' shinai compared to my koto/chokuto bioshinai, it felt really small and superlightweight... which was really weird....
I asked for some advice from Peter at training, about getting correct and better fumikomi (the foot stamping) and he said I needed to lift my forward foot more, and forwards, not upwards, so when my foot lands, it is perpendicular so I don't hurt my heel as much. And also driving more force with my left foot. I know I am improving, but it is rather slow progress but I hope I will get there eventually.
My friend is back from Japan, so will be going to get my haircut done this week sometime and perhaps look a bit fobbish LOL (fob = F.O.B = Fresh Off the Boat, i.e. just come from overseas/asia, not an aussie local) who knows what I'll look with a fresh haircut... of course the clothes to go with it might be a problem since there is a distinct lack of that.
My 10 day trial on World of Warcraft (WoW) is coming to an end. There are some vexing points to WoW vs DDO, but the gameplay is also quite simple in other components. The ability to 'solo' quests is much greater though, but there just is a heck of a lot of grinding the same creatures and areas to complete quests due to picking up stuff with really low drop rates, ie, 15% (so if you have to get 15 bandanas, you will expect to have to kill 100 bandits to get it...) I don't think at this present moment I will subscribe, as lack of money is still an issue, though perhaps in the future if DDO dies off, it may be an alternative LOL.
