Well, today was relatively positive in the job hunting field.
I spoke to two separate people that I knew, one that I have known for a little while who currently resides in Japan, and the other, a MSN/Online friend I have know for a few sets of this online webpage based game that I play, who resides in the US.
Talking to both of them and explaining my situation, they both provided some help and leads in terms of me finding work.
The fellow in the US asked for my resume and works for Boston Scientific. They have a branch in Japan, but it is probably unlikely that they have any positions there suitable for me, but he would look into it, and pass my resume forwards to the appropriate departments anyway. Which is pretty nifty.
The friend in Japan is currently in Osaka, and works in Law. He sent me a few options for me in Patent Law companies. The thing about Japan is, with all these new technologies, IP (Intellectual Property) rights is a huge issue. If you don't protect your creations/inventions, then someone else will steal it and make money instead of you. Having a look at my resume, he suggested this kind of work because I have extensive research and technological knowledge, and found me a company that someone he knows works at and recommends. He recommended not to work for his former firm. LOL.
Anyway, I had a look, and they are looking for "patent engineers", and I suit their criteria nicely. As part of the application though I will need to get a haircut and write a nice cover letter to explain my suitability, knowledge and expertise and let them know that I'm willing to travel there for interview if required (take a holiday or something I guess ^^) or if they want to do a webcam interview etc. I will try and get the haircut this week coming and send it off, since there are no deadlines on these positions by the looks of it. It says English and/or Japanese, so English only seems to be fine. I guess if you're dealing with international IP patents, you got to be able to communicate in English so that is a bonus haha. They do have offices in Osaka and Tokyo, so that is good, I'd opt for the Tokyo branch if I get the choice.
Exciting ne?
