I got my comprehensive car insurance bill for the 2008-09 year, due on the 13th July.
It's $955. It covers for the value of my car replacement to be $4850. The excess is $550.

Now, is that even worth it?.... I mean, I am paying nearly 1/5 of my car's value on insurance alone..... If I was to make a claim, I'd have to pay $550 for damages etc, which means I actually end up paying 30% of my car value..... to get my car fixed/replaced.....

How much value should you be getting for it to be worth paying this insurance?........ It is mainly at this rather high value for two reasons. One is where I live and how it's parked, and two, the type of car it is. Technically, it is a Subaru Imprezza, ie, a sports sedan. But in reality, it's a sedan. It's not a WRX or any of the 'nice' new versions, it's a 12 year old car not really worth the effort of stealing. It has no turbo, no CD player, factory wheels, nothing! LOL.... but because it belongs in the Imprezza family, it is a 'target' for theft. The locality of my suburb is.... dodge. Car theft is a statistic in my area so it seems. Since we have no lock up garage, it also increases the risk of theft, and thus my premium goes up..... Well, good luck if you want to steal my car because quite frankly, it's not worth very much for re-sale, even for parts when the insurance companies value it at only twice the cost of my computer I bought last year..... Certainly not worth the time of stealing my car if you get caught and sent to jail I'll bet....
