Food Pro Exhibition 2008

I went to the Food Pro Exhibition 2008 today, at the Exhibition and Convention Centre, Darling Harbour. I received an email about it from Science People, a company that is a recruiter for science/tech staff.

The exhibition was huge, spanning four halls of the centre. The stall sizes ranged from little 'one unit' cubicle spaces to massive open air regions with tables/chairs, food, coffee machines, and of course the stuff being displayed.

I would say that the breakdown of the show was really in three things, packaging, ingredients and conveying. Either they were displaying some kind of packaging product, packaging system, or mechanism to process packaging, a conveyor belt, conveyor cleaning, conveyor system for your good, or were importers/distributors of ingredients. It was a little repetitive in the sense that at the base level, it's all the same, just by different people, but I guess they have their own 'special' technology or something like that, which separates them from the rest of the people in their field. A lot of power would have been used in running some of those displays, and also a lot of pneumatics...

I wandered around the halls for nearly two and a half hours checking out the stalls and stuff, talked to a few people here and there, picked up some info from a couple of the companies that looked interesting and might have potential employment opportunities with them.

I was also suggested to perhaps be looking at Sales by one gentleman at a stall run by Redox. He said that I seemed to be really good at talking, communicating and have good mannerisms that would be well suited for it. Funny enough, that's what was said to me by Hayes when I was interviewed for the recruitment consultancy.

There wasn't much in terms of goodies, but I kind of expected that since it was more of a professional trade show, and these days, budgets are tighter and tighter, so I pretty much got some brochures with the odd bit of chocolate, a pen, a pizza cutter and some soap sheets. Fair enough booty.
