Court Case Meeting + 2nd Initiation for the year

I arrived early at uni today because I had to attend a meeting in regards to some consultancy work that the department is doing for a court case regarding liability. I won't disclose much information nor details since I don't really know exactly how sensitive the issue is, but the situation is that Companies A, B, C & D are all interlinked with the situation.

"A" is the supplier of raw products which "B" assembles into a kit with additional components for "C". "C" pays contractors from "D" to follow operating instructions to install the kit on their project. One component of the end result fails. There is a massive cost involved in re-applying the kits in the project (think multi-million project scale). "C" claims it is "D"'s contractors fault and therefore "D" should pay costs of re-application. "D" claims that the kits from "B" were at fault for the failure. "B" trusts "A"'s products (and why shouldn't they when the kits have been used for 9 years in Australia alone with only 2 known failures, and the same kits have been in use for 28 years worldwide without the same type of failure known. "A" is concerned about the reputation of their product, and therefore has come on board to clear their product reputation.

From the information, it appears that the contractors from "D" did not actually follow the standard operating proceedure because they used something in the process that did not come from the kit. They claim that the product they used did not affect the material made by "A". "A" has disputed this claim by saying it does affect their material. This is where we come in.

As neutral parties go, we are fairly neutral. We have no affiliation with A, B, C or D in academic nor financial manner. The initial cost of the consultancy work is being paid for by A, B & C, but the actual cost will be determined by the court as part of the court case costs most likely. We have been asked to investigate thoroughly whether the product used by "D" does or does not affect the material from "A" as claimed by "B" and "C". The resulting report may pretty much determine the case, as if we find that it does affect the material, then "D" will most likely lose the case since they not only breached the operating instructions by using this product from outside the kit, but their claim that it would not have affected the material has been found untrue. Therefore they would have to pay the costs. But, if we find that "D"'s claims are true, and no damage is done by their product used from outside the kit, the other parties will just have to suck it up.

My part specifically in this will be as a scientific expert in the use of microscopy since some microscopy may be required. Should be interesting if I am required. =) The meeting went on for an hour and a half, but it was quite interesting. I then had lunch, and off to training.

I partook in initiation earlier in the year when the first lot of beginners got into their bogu. When that happened though, I was only the 'shimpan' for the event. Today, I was one of the players. I'll get to that in a little bit I guess.

Training today was not that different to normal. We did have a slightly shorter suburi set, and then we did footwork. I don't know why but today I was pretty buggered already, possibly from lack of sleep and early wake required, so by the time we got to footwork, my shoulders were already killing me, and I was finding it difficult to make cuts. I did pull through though to continue training. We put on our men, and then had group training with non-bogu people also. The person leading today, while they do a good job, they don't explain very well. It might be that they think faster than they talk, so they think that they have explained what they wanted to. They said to do a three-person rotation method. To me, there is two ways to do that.

1) A B C
A B---C-->
<--A---C B
C A---B-->

2) A B C
A B ---C-->
A ---C--> B
C ---A--> B

But, they didn't apparently want it like that. They did some kind of half explanation, and then I didn't quite get it, so I ended up doing (2) with the people infront of me until someone else told me what they had meant.

3) A B C
A B---C-->
C A---B-->
C ---A--> B

Now, I'm sorry, but, (3) just seems more complex than neccessary?! I think (1) or (2) are the 'normal' ways that people tend to be aware of or use, and I know from the state squad trainings that we have partaken in sometimes, (1) is their standard method of three-person rotation...

We did kirikaeshi, kihon men, kihon kote, kaishi dou, small men, small kote, kirikaeshi using rotation. Finishing with that, we had jigeiko for three sets, and onto initiation. The two people I first played in jigeiko were also playing initiation later, so on the third set, they got to rest. Since Saturday training when I was told to machinegun style play, I tried that today in jigeiko, and then also in initiation. The unfortunate person who I had first bore the energy I had to give as I unleashed my attempt of machinegun kendo. I did hit them a lot, I missed some, but I didn't think I hit that hard, at least not compared to some others. Unluckily for them also, the next person they played also unleased machinegun kendo too since they wanted to vent off their exam-stress (they haven't been able to train due to exam study, so they had all this kendo tension pent up LOL). But, at least the beginner bogu guy already had a mini-initiation so he knew what was coming.

I continued to try my machinegun kendo in the initiation but boy, I was pretty pooped. I went out hard, and I did lay it into them, my apologies if I did hurt you a little. I think I did ok, executing a lot of rapid hits and cuts, but none of them would have really qualified for ippon.... But it did show me the control and speed and strength that I need to develop for faster cuts. I don't think my shinai type is suited for machinegun cuts, but if I can work with it, it means my cuts will be much better thanks to it. I was shown an exercise that one of the others do at home, 100x a day if they can, and it helps them with their control, as they said, its more about using your muscles effectively and efficiently, instead of just only building a lot of muscle. Very true. The beginners got a beating or two from the seniors, but I think they survived perfectly fine, but yeah, I am quite sore and tired from it all..... So that's pretty much how my day went. How was yours dear reader? ^_^
