I had heard of this film, but I didn't know anything about it. I couldn't even remember how I had heard about this film in the first place but the name rang a bell somewhere in the depths of my mind.
It is an Australian made film (which is probably why I've heard of it, probably in the newspaper arts section) about a Jewish girl and her coming of age where she hates her school, her name and secretly wishes to be elsewhere. Additionally, she is far from 'normal' and fully is aware of this.
It is an interesting film. Fate lands in the form of a shoe as Esther escapes, or should I say, tries to escape from her own coming of age party, and she goes on a discovery journey. She finds out about change, the good, the bad, and a little more about who she really is inside and what it means to be her true self.
There is some funny bits in it, and some sadness but in the end, it is a simple yet well told story of not only her, but her family and the circle of people she encounters on her journey to finding self.
A decent film to watch.
