I attended the wedding of some friends I have know for a while now through Archery today. It was held at the Banjo Patterson Park in the cottage centre there down the end of Punt St in Gladesville with the easiest entrance path via Victoria Rd.
The invites said that guests should arrive at 11am with the ceremony to start at 11:30pm but they ran a little late. People occupied themselves with chatter until it started and I caught up with everyone I knew there, even people I hadn't seen in years since they were the bride's friends from many years ago.
The ceremony was a little strange since the celebrant was a bit odd. Quite jovial and had a few small jokes here and there but in a way, perhaps also a bit creepy by making quips here and there that nearly bordered on the not-appropriate scale in some ways. Perhaps he had been one for too long and was starting to make ways to reduce the monotony that can easily happen if you attend a lot of them (since if it is your job then that is what you do).
It was a simple civil ceremony outside in the sunshine with a little sun shower of rain in the middle but nothing enough nor serious to be a problem. Then came the usual customary mass of photographs and congratulations by everyone before the crowd eventually milled their way inside for lunch.
Lunch was a long affair but the food was quite nice. I had a lamb on onion cake entree, a roasted chicken on polenta, and then a chocolate mousse as dessert. In addition, I had a glass of red wine, which while not as dry as the wine I had at Buzo, it was quite easy to drink and much much smoother than the clearsking from home. I didn't try the white but I was told that it was a bit sharp, though still drinkable. Conversation was decent enough with the people at my table.
We then went outside for the speeches, given by the best man, father of the bride, mother of the bride and a representitive of the groom's family. This was finished by a short speech from the bride on behalf of the newlyweds. We then had coffee and cake until the farewell where the couple left by water-taxi to go to their hotel before some drinks and leaving on their honeymoon.
It was quite nice. Simple, and well organised. The function centre staff were good, the premises very nice also with beautiful views of the bay nearby. It was a bit wistful in the sense that I didn't have someone to bring along with me but instead was seated next to another single guy, which wasn't a problem, but it would have been nice for the situation to be different, that is all.
They are a wonderful couple though, being together for six years now and I wish them the very best for their married life ahead.
I got home just after six pm, so in all, I was out for a better part of nearly seven hours for it.
