Appropriate behaviours

A short rant in regards to appropriate behaviour.

I went to Kendo training yesterday, and something there annoyed me a little.
One of the members, I guess he is probably mid-level in terms of hierachy, towards the senior end of the club these days, and he is also an executive member of the club was there.

He had the option of training, but he decided not to train. That is okay, his own choice. However, what he did instead was in my opinion rather inappropriate. Our instructor came because he had the day off after being busy in the morning with other things, and this is quite 'rare' for him to come during the week. This should have motivated him somewhat to train but he didn't.

That in itself did not bother me. What did was that he sat there watching sitcom's on his laptop. The watching is okay, but laughing out loudly, and I mean very loudly, so much so that it turned heads, that is NOT appropriate. It is distracting, especially when our club instructor is trying to talk and teach us things during training.

If you want to not train fine. Sit and watch, like the person who came along and was interested in joining the club, or like the girl (a beginner) who sprained her ankle and couldn't train, but did suburi with a shinai while sitting on the floor. Don't sit there laughing at stuff on a laptop. Go somewhere else and watch it, and then come back to join them for dinner if that is what you wanted to do.
