I finished watching this old drama series the other day. It's called Ashita no Kita Yoshio, or the translation of Tomorrow's Kita Yoshio, Kita Yoshio being a person's name.
It is a 11 episode series about a man, called Kita Yoshio who has always had the affinity with the number 11. He was 11th in his school, Student ID was 11, his birthday is on the 11th of November, and so it goes. 11 years ago at the start of the story, he is also divorced by his beautiful wife Mizuho, and in 11 days will be the anniversary of his friend Minnami's death by tragic airplane accident over in Thailand.
He has fallen into dispair about life, lost his job, his home, and hhas no direction at all, so he plans to kill himself on the anniversary of Minnami's death to join his friend in the afterlife. Thus the premise goes.
However, along the way, he accidentally bumps into a Caberet owner who is a bit on the shady side, who tries to use Yoshio for a insurance payout scam, since his girlfriend Rika is an insurance salesperson. Since he is going to commit suicide anyway, he figures it would be okay to utilize his death to take them out of their debt issues.
So thus is the scenario that we are faced with.
It is a very slow paced series, it is a drama, but it is touching to see something a little more human. There is love involved in the sense of people coming to love people, and to love life, and the heartbreak of lost love (the presence of his ex-wife).
I enjoyed it but it might not be for everyone. You can find it through Drama Addicts website.
