Changing Phone Plans

I switched my phone plan today since my mobile contract was expiring on the 1st of July 2009. I was previously paying $38 a month which was a $29 plan plus $9 for my mobile phone, however since my phone has now been "paid off", I didn't need to continue paying for it.

So I called up Soul Communications, and the person answering customer care sounded local which was nice for a change. I asked them about my account and found that had I not done anything, I would remain on the same plan but only pay on a month-to-month basis at $29.

Now, I currently don't use the full extent of my cap plan, that includes $120 worth of calls and messages, so I asked about if they had lower level cap plans. They told me that with TPG (who they have partnered with) they now have a $9.99 plan that includes $50 worth of cap. I prefer to have something a little higher than that if I need to make prolonged calls for work purposes or emergency situations and so then asked if they had anything in between. They told me about their $19.99 plan that had $300 worth of cap included. That was pretty good.

So, I got turfed over to their sales department where an Indian sounding lady (meaning I probably got bailed to an external call centre) took my account and details and processed me. So, once 1st July kicks around, I'll have a different plan with my same phone.

Looking at the website, they also have a $12.99 plan that has a $150 cap, I guess I could have gone for that, but they didn't tell me about it, but at least I guess I have $18 saving a month compared to before so I can't complain really.... I can also go a little more crazy about phone calls if I actually had people to call lol, or SMS.... at 25.3c/SMS, that would be 1185 SMS's a month... egads...

So, do I now get a new phone?
I don't have a data plan but data is charged at 5c/10kb... bleugh, pricey. Or $5.12/mb of data...
I don't really need mobile internet anyway, so I don't need a phone with that kind of higher end capacity like the iPhone or any Android based phones, even though they would be cool.... Oh well.
