Not in that order, it was actually Mahjong, Hotpot then Karaoke.
However, firstly to Saturday morning training.
Got up, ugh, tired. Got my stuff together, hopped into the car and went off to uni. When I got in, I found a park thankfully and saw that the rugby games hadn't started yet but people were around warming up, so it was to be certain that sooner than later the parking spots would fill up. I was also the only one for Kendo there at that point in time, but I wasn't *that* early....
There were some girls inside training basketball with someone from the Sydney Flames, the womens basketball league team, and I think it was their junior squad training or something. More people came for Kendo, and by midday when we started, we had several people but the basketballers were still in there. We had to ask the staff to tell them that they had to finish up before we could get started.
Warmup was normal, a little vigorous to get warmed up because the weather has turned cold now for winter, and then we did the usual footwork, hayasburi bursts and kiai. When we do the hayasuburi kiai practice (as many as you can with the strongest kiai you can muster), I always end up doing a very small amount, but I feel my face becoming fully flushed, can smell the smell of blood, and my throat ends up hurting. I think that my kiai is more intense for the smaller amount, but it is hard to say.
Then we went into doing waza rotations as usual, but we were told to put more energy into our rotations and have a mini rest as we rotated. I certainly thought I did because I was a bit tired and right now the morning after I'm also a little muscularly sore. My kiai also changed since I asked someone afterwards and they commented that they had noticed that. Since we didn't have training for three weeks, I've also been doing some weights with 15lb weights on each hand and I wasn't sure if I was generating more power or speed, but someone said I did hit harder but it felt more of a kensen whipping action with the shinai digging in. Hmm.
After training I went home for a shower and then to pick up some stuff before I headed out again to the hotpot gathering. A group of us converged on a friends place for some socialising with hotpot dinner being the main function at hand. We were waiting for a while so we played a poorly understood game or three of mahjong. When I say poorly understood, it is that we don't know the rules and setup properly, but play just to complete sets and hands, basics pretty much. In any case, it was fun, while others played Big2 and the xbox with Soul Calibur 2. Then everyone came along and we got the hotpots going. There was twelve of us around the two tables put together, and we had three burners going. There was quite a substantial amount of food to be had and we chatted idly through it. We ate most of it too which was rather surprising, but then with seven guys, it isn't that surprising.
Once we finished that and packed it all away, the mahjong table came back out, and so did the mic's for karaoke. Well, there doesn't really need to be a descriptor for the events happening, but lets say there were some rather frustrating hands played, with the final round that we played, we had three people waiting for a 7 stone to win, and the fourth player had it for twenty minutes not wanting to give it up....
Lots of fun really, the singing, some of it was good, some of it was bad, and some people are just plain tone deaf >_< lol but at least they know it, but they enjoy singing so they still did it anyway and you can't really fault them for it.
So I got home pretty late, but I slept in this morning which made up for it just fine ^_^
