Jeebusmas

Well, today is Jeebusmas (derived from people calling Christmas, Jesusmas, then Homer from the Simpsons saying "Save me Jeebus!" in one of the episodes) here in New York, there has been some rain overnight which has melted some of the snowfall from last weekend.  It is still pretty white out there, but very grey and overcast at midday while I write this.

The last few days hmm, well not a lot, and a lot, has happened all at the same time lol.  Monday when we got back from Minnesota I already wrote about.  Tuesday, we went and saw "Up in the Air" starring George Clooney, about a road warrior who works for a company that specialises in laying off workers because their bosses are too scared to do it themselves.  Ryan (Clooney) loves the travel and the detachment, so much so he is even a presented on guest talks where he gives his philosophy on the "backpack" idea, which is that the more stuff you carry in your "backpack" (your life), the more weighed down you are, and the less you can move.  Humans have to move to live, thus if you are weighed down with family, house, payments etc, then you are not living since you are standing still.  Interesting philosophy.

After the movie (which was very good, recommended to see if you haven't, it's very .... thought provoking) we had dinner at a mexican place, Caliente Cab Co Cafe.  We had a fiesta platter and a grape margharita, that came with a bowl of corn chips n dip.  The platter had fried ravioli (weird concept, a bit dry but otherwise okay), taco, burrito, fried chicken of some kind, and shrimp skewers.  There was a mustard and a tamarind sauce to go with as separate dips.  The drink came in a souvineer glass that you could keep if you want to.  I now have a glass.  It's real glass too, not plastic like the Bubba Gump hurricane glass from my last visit.

On Wednesday, the main thing of the day was the awesomeness that is James Cameron's Avatar.  Oh My Goodness... this movie has got to be one of the BEST films ever to date.  I don't know how to describe it, but the experience is phenomenal.  We saw it in Imax 3D, and it was so incredible.  The plot is simple and complex.  Humans go to Pandora, want to dig it up for Unobtainium (lol), natives don't like this, conflict ensures.  Add the complexity of how they try to resolve the conlict, through communication and force.  The animation, the blending, the cinemaography, inspired.  I can't really do it justice in words.

After the movie, we wandered around and visited B&H Photo and Audio.  This place is HUGE, multiple floors, but it also has these moving tracks that push containers around of goods that customers order.  It's pretty funky, and the prices are fairly reasonable too.  It's run by these Jewish guys apparently, so yeah, good deals all round supposedly lol.  Then, we wandered around some more to Best Buys and also to Staples to check out things before we went home and cooked dinner.

Thursday was fairly uneventful too.  I popped down to get some bagels for breakfast and had a conversation with a lady while waiting about things to do in NYC.  She highly recommended to NOT go to the ball drop at Times Square, and listening to her reasons, I think I won't go now lol.  Waiting for HOURS in the COLD with NO Bathrooms available and a mad crush of people.... yeah, doesn't seem to sound like a great idea to me so much lol...  Then went shopping for food and cooked a seafood marinara pasta for dinner before watching the Incrediibles, Cloudy with Meatballs and Zombieland lol.

At the moment, Twilight is playing on the laptop off some website, and we might head out later to catch another movie.  Thus is how it is ^_^
