Morning world.
I'm still a tad tired after being out late yesterday evening.

Tried to run the crystallisation yesterday with sucrose as planned, however because the solution was being heated to 60°C to evaporate off water, the solubility of sucrose was increased from 211g/100g water to 350g/100g it meant that no crystallisation was actually occurring. This, I had to dissolve more sugar into the solution. The downside is, as predicted, once the solution cools down, such as in storage overnight etc, all of the dissolved sugars crash out of solution, and now I have two containers of supersaturated sugar at room temperature but will require dissolution again. I may have to pour it into a beaker and stick it into the 100°C drying oven for a little bit to dissolve it before running the experiment.... but I won't be doing that until next week or so.

I met up with some people from Kendo for lunch, and since I wasn't actually doing anything, ended up having afternoon tea, and then randomly walking down to Oxford St and having dinner at a place called Betty's Soup Kitchen. It was actually quite comfy there, and the lamb stew was pretty decent. They also provided bread and it was really fresh, soft and yummy =P Then we walked around and talked for a while.

I was lucky to get to the station and only wait six minutes for the next train, but if I had missed it, I would have probably had to wait 40-60minutes for the next one to come. But I still didn't get home until rather.

I got home and checked my mail, and behold a response from McKinsey & Company sitting there. Their applications closed on the 10th (Monday) and by Thursday, there was a response. I thought that was pretty quick. I won't cut and paste the email, but in paraphrasing, they thanked me for my application, and it would appear (so this person said) that they had to discuss my application with several people/colleagues about my suitability compared with several 'others' and in the end decided that I wasn't as suitable for their work as the 'others'. The email seemed to be a non-standard email, e.g. not a pre-generated form as a auto-rejection sent to applicants, as they also said that due to my background they believe that I would be most likely to get employment elsewhere that would be interesting and challenging for my experience and expertise. Perhaps they have a rather low number of postgraduate applicants that they do more personal responses for them instead of the hundreds of undergraduate applications.

Anyway, so that is one application rejected, four more to wait on =) I would expect that with Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group and Port Jackson Partners, that they will say similar things, i.e. thank you for applying but you are not what we are looking for, good luck elsewhere. As for Flavourtech hmm, I don't know what their response will be like, but quite frankly, things are looking more that I would rather stay in Sydney for the time being, but obviously if I have no other valid options, I may just have to take what I can get and head out west.
