Microtoming.
I hate it.
I spent 5 hours in front of one today, and it was pretty miserable. All I really managed to do was trim the blocks and face them off, three of them. I did manage to get semi-thins (0.5um) off 1S2-1 block, but I stuffed it when I tried to get ultra-thins. The sample isn't ruined, but will need re-facing again. ~sigh~
I am surprised at how much I did remember considering it's been over five years since I did any TEM sectioning, and well, my glass knives aren't too bad haha, though the tape boats on them still suck as bad as they did those years ago.
We also had a fire alarm go off too while we were down there working. It was a building alarm but for some reason the alarms in the basement didn't go off, so no-one downstairs knew until people came down to evacuate us.... dangerous if it was a real fire.
Clinical Trials Screening
I went over to UNSW to get my eyes tested as part of the Institute for Eye Research thingy, with contact lenses. It wasn't too bad. My screening tester was called Kay, quite nice, good sense of humor. Did the standard eye tests for prescriptions, and the measured ones were quite similar to my standard optometrist's prescription, just slightly different on one eye, but that wasn't too bad. I also had fluroscine orange put into my eye, and had my optic nerve and macula checked, had my eye pressure puffed (to check for signs of glaucoma) and also had my eyelids flipped up to see how they were underneath (which were in good condition). I didn't have to get dilation eye drops which was good.
If I get contacted to participate in a clinical trial for contact lenses, then I'd get contact lenses to use LOL, but that is if I am suitable, which I probably am not suitable for soft contacts at least thanks to my peculiar astigmatism that also apparently render my eyes invalid for laser eye surgery too. Oh wells.
