Edward Scissorhands - Sydney Opera House.
Having never seen the movie, I only had a vague idea from reading the synopsis on IMDB about the story line, but I managed to follow the performance and quite enjoyed it. It was a ballet, and well, you could ask, how would you adapt it to ballet, but, they did. And quite well in my opinion. The costumes were really good, well made and really defined the characters. Edwards costume looked like a set of leather armour, and he had seriously long bladed scissors on his hands, and all except for one scene, he kept them on as he danced around. The set for the show was also excellent. Rather simple, but effective, and the use of the mesh screens was amazing too. The props for the garden material where Edward trims them into shapes was brilliant too. The musical score was composed based off Danny Elfman's original soundtrack for the movie, so it was really good, very emotional and spine tingling in some ways.
One point that was absolutely stand-out was the facial expression. Having seen Billy Elliot at the Capital a few weeks back, and that being a musical, there was facial expression there, but with dialogue to express emotion. In Edward Scissorhands, it was pure expressive emotion. Edwards performance with joy, confusion, passion, and pain/suffering was..... amazing. Sitting in Row/Seat M30, it was pretty good to see the entire stage but yet not too far away to not be able to see their faces properly. If that chap was to ever get into silent films, his facial expressive ability would be amazing.
A negative, was apparently it didn't follow the original movie the entire way. Particular characters were different, and some of the plot/story was different too. I guess they didn't want to make it so super-dark like the movie, but it was still enjoyable for someone who knew and loved the movie.
A special touch to the end was that they sprayed fake snow over the audience..... it was actually really cool LOL. There wasn't a standing ovation, but the applause was thunderous and went on for quite a while with the cast taking multiple bows.
Post show, I had dinner at Pepper Lunch again. I got the same dish as last time, but I got a free creamed soup while my friend got free miso soup.... I think it was because it was getting late and they were closing up, they were just passing off the remaining food otherwise it'd be chucked away. It was still a really nice and tasty meal, even though it was the 2nd time I've had it in 3 days, didn't bother me one bit haha.
I got back to the house (house sitting) and fired up the fireplace. Toasty.
The cat certainly liked it because she proceeded to flop infront of it, stretch out and go to sleep LOL. I like fireplaces. I don't know what it is about just having a fire, be it wood or gas.... If I was to build a house, it'd definitely have some kind of fireplace for those winter nights ^^
