Watched this movie last night, and it was better than I thought it would have been with assortment of "national lampoon" movies that are actually out there.
In simple plot terms, kid is good at bagging, which for those who are unfamiliar with this, this is where someone puts your groceries into a bag at the end of the checkout/cashier in the shop/supermarket. This concept is actually foreign to some because not everywhere has this kind of service. In Australia the cashier/checkout person usually does it as they swipe the goods across the barcode reader into plastic bags (since it is very rare to get paper her any more) or one of those 'enviro-bags'. He meets girl, girl's ex-boyfriend is also a bagger, but a champion bagger. Rivalry of sorts between his boss and champion bagger boss, ends up competing in national bagging contest.
It's got some cringe moments, not really laugh-out moments, though I guess that depends on your humor and what you like. Fairly mindless to watch.

To go on with this topic though, although I am not familiar the unemployment situation in the US, it seems that people have opportunities to be employed, at the low end level in simple jobs like this. The pay I'm sure is terrible, but it is certainly still a job, something to do, something to take pride in etc because as the movie does show, and it is true for anyone who tries to fill bags with stuff, it takes skill to stack and pack a paper bag for maximum capacity and weight without the bag dying on you....
Now, with minimum wages over in the US being really bad, I can understand that it might be easier to not work a crummy job like this and steal, mug, etc..... But, I guess it is always a difficult situation to be living well beyond the poverty line like a lot of people do.
If we had baggers in our supermarkets here, with the big chains like Woolworths, Coles, IGA, Franklins, Bi-Lo, it would employ thousands of people.... but then these big companies (mainly from the formerly Coles-Myer group) would have to pay more money and lose more of their big profits...... and then their bigwigs would have to tighten their belts some so instead of earning $10 million or something, they'd earn $9.9 million instead.... bastards.
