Tired today, stayed up quite late by normal standards to talk to someone I hadn't had a good conversation with for a while and discussed some issues that I had been hearing here and there around the traps but never really knew what the dickens was going on. It was good to get their side of the issue and had a frank discussion about it.

Got into uni and switched the resin concentrations for the clay samples for the fastest schedule. I chatted to one of the staff at the EMU about the work for relocating the biological specimen preparation lab while the current lab space was being renovated. There is a lot to be moved, and it is going all over the place..... had a bit of a look at the space that stuff needed to go to, and worked out where things were going. I didn't move much today, just took some dirty glassware off one of the shelves in the 'new' area and set it to wash in the washing machine for the small stuff, and hand washed the larger stuff. Tomorrow is when the movers come in to shift the big stuff like the fridges and microtomes etc, so I will be in to move chemicals out of the fridge and small bits.

I ate lunch on the go, and stopped off in Chinatown to cash in the lotto ticket I had won. While in line, I noticed that a lot of people were getting their tickets checked for winning games, but their tickets had no winning games..... So, basically, they don't even check the numbers for the draw, but buy for hope of winning.... now that is just gambling LOL. I mean, ok, buying a ticket is gambling, but I get the anticipation while checking the numbers manually to see if I got any winning numbers, but these people.... where is the fun in that?! Anyway, I got my money and used it to buy a autopick ticket for this weeks Powerball draw, with a jackpot of $50 million.... someone will be very very happy if they crack division one alone.... as is, even if there is like 10 winners for division one, it's still a whopping $5 mil each.... I think I'd be happy with division 7 and getting my money back haha, play for the fun.

I then took a long and wet walk down to t he NSW State Library, where the Mitchell Wing Gallery is to have a look at the World Press Photo 08 Exhibition. This is the 3rd year for me going to it. I was hoping to go on the weekend and thankfully I looked it up because it finishes on Thursday ~phew~. The exhibition is the prize winning photographs deemed by the World Press association across a range of categories for news, stories, current affair articles etc. This year, it was really sad to see that nearly half of the images there were related to war of some kind. What you could say would be haunting images of Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and ones involving the assassination of Prime Minister Bhutto. There was a small amount of 'sport' related images, and quite a few on 'life' images. One that was interesting but sad to see, at least for me was a picture of Narwhals. These creatures have a very long spike, that apparently used to be sold to people as unicorn horns.... and the image was about them being hunted legally but inuit people. It is part of their life and culture, but it was sad to see a narhwal head just sitting on the ice.......hmmm Well, you only have two days left to see the exhibit if you want to, or buy the book of the images for $45 at the shop downstairs apparently.

After going through the gallery, I wandered down to the Opera House to pick up tickets that I had bought for Edward Scissorhands at the Opera Theatre. I'm slowly expanding my cultural education methinks now I have time, though not much money LOL, to do so. It was really windy down at the Quay, but interesting to watch the small dedicated asian people trying to take photos while juggling cameras (like, one for each person in the group on the shoulder of one person taking the photo) with an umbrella, and a backpack..... multi-skilled.... Picking up the tickets took 2 minutes at the box office itself but about 10min wait in line for other people to sort out their tickets. Then back to Circular Quay station for the train home. I slept for most of it LOL.

And that, was my day thus far. Anything interesting in the evening no doubt will get put here eventually ^^
