Today was a bit of a bludge type of day. I stayed mainly at home for most of the 'day' and went out at 3pm to get into uni.
I spent a bit of time also looking at jobs again, but this time scoping out ones in the US, found a few interesting things here and there, but I re-sent my resume, this time officially, through to Boston Scientific. Other than that, just having a look.
I watched the 2nd Futurama Movie, The Beast with a Billion Backs. It was ok. I thought that it wasn't as good as the first movie, Benders Big Score, I mean, it did have funny moments and the art was of the usual quality, but it was certainly more serious than the normal futurama that is. There was the usual nonsensicalness about it, but just, more 'adult' really than anything else, and the science wasn't super far-fetched either haha. Still worth watching if you're a futurama fan, don't get me wrong, but left me slightly disappointed from my expectations.
I drove to uni to do some resin work changing for the clay samples, and to attend the book launch. The resin was simple enough to do, but the corridors downstairs at the EMU have now been blocked off for the working on renovating the rooms. To access the machines in the different wings, you now have to use the different stairwells, which, is annoying, but I guess for safety reasons, fair enough, but it was just a slight surprise to turn the corner and see a big wall of plywood instead of the corridor LOL.
The book launch was interesting. I've only really ever been to one other launch, but it was more of a reading than a launch, and that was far more of an wider audience than tonight. The book title is Sydney Uni Sport: 1852 - 2007, more than just a club. RRP Hardback $149.95, Softcover $79.95. Special launch prices were $120.00 and $60.00 respectively. I bought the softcover version. Published by Sydney Uni Press. The book essentially covers the history and achievements of SUSF, which apparently has never been done before. Plenty of books have been written before about Rubgy club, cricket at Sydney Uni, and also the book last year called Newtown Tarts (which I have right next to me) that covers the history of the Sydney Uni Womens Sports Association. So, this being the volume that it is (300 odd pages), it looks at the total overall encompassing history and development, with sources from newspapers, official documents, club records, recollections of oldies who are still alive and so forth. Not only though is it about sport, but the reflection of the change of society and the values that are seen with that change, through sport.
The function was also a farewell to Vice Chancellor Gavin Brown. Speeches all round =P
Man, I is tired right now haha.
