I called Lang Technologies in regards to how they were doing in considering me for a position, and also to see how their Japan trip went. It would seem that their trip was pushed back slightly, and they are actually leaving on Wednesday instead. They will be going until the 8th or 9th of August, and according to the person I spoke to, if things go well, then it will go well for me too. They have some contracts on the table, and they are hoping to get them all signed during their tip in Japan. If they sign off on them, they will be in a position to make a package and offer to me. They said they are fairly confident that things will go well, but until the pen touches paper and lifts off in a satisfactory manner, it is too early to be 100% certain. Of course.
I also did quite a bit of job hunting online, as part of my usual routine. I found a few positions at PepsiCo (makers of Pepsi and Tropicana Juices) in the US, with Sr Scientist - Innovations, and Sr Scientist - Product Development positions looking rather interesting. Especially for the ones that have the qualification requirements of PhD - 0 years experience. I believe I can fit the other points to some degree. The downside though is that it specifically says no relocation. Which means they will probably not sponsor relocation issues, but that is speculation of course. I am still thinking about if I should apply for it or not. The danger of course is to wait until the 9th or 10th August for Lang Tech, which the position may be gone by then... The position is in Valhalla, NY..... Hmm, ponderances a plenty eh.
I also saw a position advertised at the Woolcock Institute, for a part time research assistant, Mondays to Wednesdays , afternoon-evening work assisting their sleep research centre. Looks interest, and I have a potential referral available who already works in the Woolcock but I don't know if I really want to be working afternoons and evenings.
I do realise that I am quite picky about my work situation, but that is just me, so.... I will have to find something that will suit and satisfy my needs, right?
So thus the search continues.

It all sounds interesting. You've done the time in university - so you're right to be picky. Don't sell yourself for less than you're worth until there really isn't any other opportunity. Plus, relocation wouldn't cost that much, would it?
Physical relocation is quite expensive, besides the airfare, you have to consider rent costs like bond deposits, and for say NY... ooh boy. Then you have to take into consideration that you will be taking probably more than 32kg of stuff over (plane allowance weight) like your clothes, books, sporting gear, computer bits and so forth. Shipping is expensive unless you want it to come by ship which will be about 3 months... gack.
Then you have to consider wages since some companies pay monthly, so for the first month landing there, no wage/salary, and I'd have to open a bank account with some money too.... My brother got $30k USD as his relocation fund.... he was offered $14k from another company as part of their package too, so looking at that, relocation really isn't cheap... And if I was to do it myself, it would eat 50-90% of my current long term savings....
