In my conquest to attain a job, I applied to a company called D.E. Shaw & Co. They are a business management/investment/research company located in New York City, New York, USA. Their website is clean, minimalistic but informative. Very professional in some ways.
I filled out the online submission form with my resume and details the other day. I guess my resume made sufficient interest for them to follow up with a 'standard form' with extra stuff in it that wasn't covered in my resume like my marks (I really dislike that) as well as what my salaries have been in the last three years (so they know if I'm hungry for good money? What I'm worth?...) and things like presentation/public speaking experience (always useful when talking to clients). Interestingly, unlike the other companies which I have applied for previously, they also asked for five to ten pages of writing that I had done. Perhaps they wanted to see the quality of my English, or how well I could write in particular style? I'm not exactly sure...
I sent it all off back to them as they wanted, but in my eagerness I actually failed to attach the files the first time I sent it, and when I realised, I quickly sent another with them properly attached.... *doh*....
I guess now I'm back to the waiting game again, like every other job application.
