The weather was pretty crazy today. Clocking in about 34°C around midday in my room, with estimated 36°C in the city. A light breeze was about though which helped it stay bearable. However, the system was moving very quickly, and by the late afternoon/early evening, the temperatures had dropped very quickly, and strong winds had come up with a lot of grey cloud mass appearing. The wind was strong enough to push the trees around to breaking point as we heard branch breaking noises which caused people to scatter from underneath the trees.
Training today was different kind of, but not really. The person leading wanted to try something a little different, but what they did different really hurt me physically. They only did a half-assed warmup routine and stretching, which, I certainly did not agree with nor approve of silently. This proved to be an issue later because I nearly pulled my right quadriceps doing kihon men-lunge cuts. The rest of training wasn't really that different to normal, but he had asked us to do something at the start that was different to build up more energy, kind of like a psyching up exercise. We all stood in a circle, shoulders touching distance. Then, together we yelled really loudly a count from one to ten, and then finished with kiai. I guess in such close quarters, it really sort of produces the ki you're after and perhaps it kind of worked. I trained pretty hard today I thought. We did usual waza training in the sense it was kirikaeshi, kihon men, kihon kote, dou cuts, tsuki practice and then jigeiko. My tsuki today was a lot better than on Monday I must say.
I used my new shinai today, and I really like it. It does feel a lot heavier though, much more like how the bokken is weighted, and I really like that feel. My cuts were a lot more powerful and the sound it was producing really showed how much punch it carries. I don't know how it feels like to get cut by it compared to what I was using before, but it feels great to cut with. The thin grip is a little different to what I have been used to, but I think I kind of have got used to it now, though it probably has a little more rotation in my hand than I want if I'm not gripping very tightly. In jigeiko, I did notice I was cutting less but I was tired from training also, so it's hard to tell why exactly. But, it did make my cut attempts more focused.
For jigeiko, I managed to even get myself disarmed by the person leading today, possibly because I was tired as, or because the thin grip of the shinai is a little harder to grip than I'm used to LOL. It might have even been caught on digicam.... I was really really really tired though from training today, so I know I trained pretty hard, my left wrist is playing up again, my shoulders and scapulae and rhomboids are sore, my hip is sore, my back is a little sore, and my left foot is also a little sore too from using solid footwork. I would like to train tomorrow, but yeah, I don't know how much more punishment I can give myself like this before I will end up doing some major damage to my wrist perhaps... -_-
Well.... my monitor is usable, just has some serious lag issues when turning on... I haven't played with changing modes or anything but it's pretty cool in standard mode. The brightness/contrast is a bit high, but I'm currently using software to keep it under wraps. I had to play Call of Duty 4 with my sunnies on though because it was super bright... LOL, I can live with that. I'm sure I can adapt with it.
What else happened today.... hmm, not much, that's just the way life goes.
I would have liked to go to dinner with people from Kendo, but I'm pretty much in super money saving mode, so yeah T_T.
