I finally got to see this movie today.
If you don't have an inkling about the movie just from the title, I'm guessing you either are not an ABBA fan, or you have no idea who ABBA are.
The movie is delightful, the scenic stage of the Greek islands is also beautiful and well, the soundtrack doesn't need introductions.
Plot wise, it seems simple enough, and I guess it kind of stays simple, except for a minor twist in the end. Girl grows up with a single mother, is getting married and wants her father to give her away at the wedding. The problem is, there are three candidates... So, what do you do? You invite all three of course and hope you can find out which one it is.
The singing performances between them all is great. Meryl Streep has a wonderful voice, and so does Amanda Seyfried, though Pierce Brosnan does seem to have some pitching limitations. The movie soundtrack covers most of the more known tunes from ABBA and is very cleverly written into the dialogue/scenes.
All thumbs up on this one. =)
The IMDB is here.
Oh, this story was also performed as a stage show too. Not sure which started first, I think the stage show, and then it was filmed in movie format.
