Had a interesting evening today after a mundane day I guess.
Didn't do much during the day as such, went into uni to deliver a CD with some data to a researcher in Anderson Stuart building as they were continuing some work I did on the Biofilm project. Then I dealt with being shifted rooms in my own building. My current location is the workstation room but I am being shifted downstairs to the ground floor into room 242. It's a small room and houses four people. One corner has been 'blocked' off with dividing walls as it will be for a visiting professor from India, while two corners are 'occupied' (occupied in the sense that people have stuff there, though one is only around every few months, and the other is only in three days a week), while my desk is currently occupied until next monday, and it is smack bang right infront of the door... So, come monday when this person who is using it leaves, I get to shift my computer from upstairs, down two floors, into this new room. I also had to get authorisation for new keys too. I had a chat with one of my PhD's and they told me that the Chemeca conference went well, they didn't have a lot of questions for their poster, and one fellow, Peterson from New Zealand was very interested in the work and thought it was very good, and now they are preparing material for IDS (International Drying Symposium) in Hyderabad, India come later in the year. They also told me that something that was conceptualised by myself and my supervisor, which was put into testing by them was working excellently, so that is awesome, as I will be using that as the basis for a research plan I am writing for a job application.
Then the evening.
We all met up around the Golden Tree in Chinatown, took a while for everyone to gather, and we headed to Kobow, which is a Korean resteraunt in the City. There was ten of us to start with, and then one more person joined in a little later, so quite a large group I guess. Ordering took a bit and we eventually decided to split the food by the mini-tables put together to form the big one. My group of four decided on some BBQ dishes (Korean BBQ, self cooked) and Fried Chicken, and then also some kimchi fried-rice, and seafood dobokke (spicey rice cake) as the BBQ and chicken wasn't enough. We also shared a bit with the others who had got their own BBQ, but they also had a hotpot and chap-che (Sweet-potato flour noodle stir-fry, a 'famous/iconic' Korean dish) which we got some of too.
Amongst all of the food, of course was alcohol. We started with three bottles of Souju, and well, we ended up with a heck of a lot more. In the space of one and a half hours, I had six shots of it, which by far is the most I've ever had alcohol wise in one sitting, let alone such a quick timeframe. The souju is a spirit, at 19% alcohol. This means, at 30mL/shot, I had 180mL souju, which was 34mL of alchol, or essentially one entire shot of pure alcohol.... Souju is pretty cheap at $10/bottle (300mL bottles), so I had a good part of the bottle I guess. My friend Minsu, who is leaving to go to Brisbane for a job, which is why we were celebrating, said that his limit is two bottles before he goes under LOL, but he's quite a big fellow and being Korean, has drank his fair share of souju.
For me, I have never been 'tipsy' or drunk in my life, so I am still not entirely sure what my limits are, but tonight, or should I say, last night since it's past midnight, I think I was approaching tipsy point with the amount in that short a time. While I wasn't tipsy, walking to the bathroom was strange, I didn't have a loss of balance, nor inability to walk straight, but just feeling slightly lightheaded, so I knew I was nearing that tipsy point. Probably if I had one or two more shots in the same timeframe, I would have been there. How much it would take to bring me to 'drunk' I still have no idea.
Observations from two drinks away of tipsy. Bad place to be. I will endevour not to drink so much so fast LOL. I was in still 100% control of my brain and actions/words, but I could feel that I was being much more open and extroverted. In addition to this, I was being very fidgety too, possibly because alcohol is quite high in energy, calorie wise, so it was like being on a sugar high?... Further more, I think a part of my personality, which, hmm, was something I didn't think I had much of, was nudging to come out LOL, a little shocking to me to discover it's existance, but it may be a mixture of circumstance that caused it, but let's leave it at that for the time being. Ask me off the blog if you really want to know LOL, I'm sure it'll get me in trouble with someone sometime somewhere eventually.
Post dinner, some people went for more drinks at a bar nearby, while others got ice-cream, and proceeded to play Extreme Air Hockey. It's just air hockey, but adding Extreme to the front makes it sound more exciting haha. I decided to go home at this point because trains that go my way take a very long time and are few and far inbetween. To the point where I left earlier than the others, and I still got home later than the others who stayed out to play EAH.... bah, my train station line sucks so bad ever since they changed the timetables... damn Cityrail....
Anyway, it was a fun night, and it was quite cheap considering how much food was there. ^_^ I will have to probably exercise it off somehow since I had all that alcohol, and the food.... T_T
Best of Luck in Brisbane Minsu~
