Project Pictures

I eluded to this project a little while back in this post here. Now that the appropriate persons have all received their goodies and the surprises won't be ruined as such, I thought I'd put the images up of what I was working on.

This first one is a bookmark for someone which has a Wheel of Time (by Robert Jordan) theme to it. They used to write for a fanfic style community and Sarephina was/is their online name. The pattern on the bookmark is the five weaves with Saidin/Saidar on the left, and then the seven Ajahs starting with the Red Ajah on the left of the middle section and ending with the Brown Ajah on the right, and then their name.

This next one was a little and quick item. The person was being slightly obsessed by Tetris at the time (via Facebook I think), and so I thought it'd be cute to produce the Tetris blocks.

On the other side of the keyring, I put a Chocobo pattern because I knew they were an avid fan of the Final Fantasy series. I didn't have an orange colour so I substituted the beak for the brown. The eyes are a little bodgey, so it looks like the chocobo is on drugs or something. I inserted a peice of blue felt (the same as the background in these images) to provide some thickness and support for the keychain since the mesh material is quite thin and weak. The bookmark also has the blue felt as a backing to hide the messy stitching.

So there you go. In terms of time taken for the two projects, the bookmark took five days of solid work, with over 7560 stitches, while the keyring was done in less than a day. It might have also had something to do with that my stitching speed and skill due to practice also improved while doing the bookmark, so the keyring was much easier in comparison.

Ordinarily I would say doing cross-stitch is quite a non-masculine thing to do, and I'm sure a lot of people would still say that, but a few years ago I came across someone I respected (mind you, I had already been doing cross-stitch before then, and it wasn't a secret) and found that he too did it, as part of family activity. He and his wife both worked on creating this beautiful cross-stitched tapestry which marked the height of their daughter as she was growing up in periodic measurements, so it would have the height line, and the date, and then pictures of stuff like rabbits, or flowers, butterflies etc. Once she reached the height of the mesh material, they stopped it though but it's a good meter or so high, and it is now framed and hanging in their stairway hall. So, it isn't really that big a deal to be arts and craft orientated as a guy.

I could do more requests, but I am limited in colours at the moment, but if you want to shell out for the materials, I don't mind. But the speed of production may vary depending on what goes on in my life LOL. ^_^;
