Burn After Reading *Spoilers*

I didn't really know too much of this film except that it had Brad Pitt and George Clooney in it. I also knew that Brad Pitt was playing some kind of average intelligence joe, and it involved some kind of state secret material they had found and was trying to pawn off.

Well, not entirely true.

**Spoilers**
The plot is basically, CIA guy gets retrenched into a lower position, so he quits instead. He starts to write a memoirs book, and his wife who is having an affair secretly gathers files to prepare for a divorce. She inadvertently copies his memoirs, and they get accidentally lost at the local gym. Chad (played by Brad Pitt) ends up with them through the cleaner, and thinks that they are top secret intel and that it is worth a lot of money, which, it actually isn't.

Chad and his accomplice try to sell it back to the author Osborne Cox (John Malkovich) who gets really upset that they stole it, re-enforcing their belief that it is worth something. They then peddle it off to the Russians. This is when things go a little pear shaped. In an effort to try and steal more secrets, Chad breaks into the home of Cox, but startles Harry (Clooney) who is Cox's wifes lover, and Chad takes a bullet to the head. Exit scene Chad. Harry freaks, thinking that Chad is a government spook (a spy, because Chad carried no ID at all and even removed the tags on his clothes). He disposes of the body. Chads partner then freaks because he's gone missing, and asks her boyfriend, Harry (he's a major triple timing player) to help find Chad. Meanwhile the gym owner who is in love with the female accomplice goes to the house to try and steal data for her gets caught by Osborne, who is breaking into his house to get his stuff (e.g. alcohol) and they have a fight where Osborne shoots the gym guy and hacks him up with an axe.... Harry finds out who Chad is (i.e., the guy he killed) and fully flips (he's a little paranoid schizophrenic) and does a runner.

While all of this is happening though, the actual CIA is keeping tabs on the whole situation and you get these snippets of the situation from the CIA viewpoint, and they are very puzzled, thinking what on earth is going on, since they don't know that the supposed top secret information is actually just memoirs. I won't give the final ending away, but lets say it is a warped sense of funny.
****

It is quite a funny film in a black comedy kind of way. You definitely have to have the right kind of humor/enough humor to appreciate it to its full extent I think. There is a bit of swearing which kind of becomes the common link between them all, and Osborne Cox's character is brilliant.

Very entertaining XD
