It was much better than I had anticipated.
For a movie based off a game, it was pretty awesome. Mark Wahlberg does an excellent job as Max Payne.
If you've never played the game, then the plotline is simple enough. Cop's wife and baby is murdered at his home. Years later it is a long gone cold case and he alone is still trying to track down and find the murderers. The chase leads on to some very shady characters and a trail of lies, deceit and drugs.
While the effects in the movie are not anything special, how they are done are pretty nifty, and the whole tone is quite dark, which is true to the game and the atmosphere which Max Payne lives in. They also stay true to the game by keeping the action going with submachineguns and his ole pump action shotty.
There is 'bullet time' in the game, and it too is utilized in the movie somewhat so that aspect is pretty nifty too.
I liked it ^_^
Post credits, the little teaser suggests that there may be a Max Payne 2 on the way.
