Well, after spending nearly three hours in this quest, it came out to be an absolute failure. I wouldn't say it was a waste of the time, but it was costly in terms of item damage, repair bills, wands, scrolls and much brain power.
This is one of the 'new' quests in the Reavers Refuge series as part of Mod 8 in DDO that recently came out. I had only run around in the explorer areas and hadn't attempted any of the new quests. Tonight though, I had some guildies that were on (they hadn't been on for a while since they recently moved house) and we tried to three-man party this quest. One was a rogue/ranger evasion/sneak attack build, a straight barbarian, and me on my lvl 15 sorceror (fire/ice & fod/pk spec). The first section of this quest (lvl 17 on normal, while level cap is 16 still) was loaded with traps, very nasty ones. A lot of bad scorpions and drow wizards and clerics also. Once we cleared the start and opened up the shaft to downstairs we had mocking monks and more drow and scorpions to deal with. We then cleared that and opened up the first cube puzzle which took a while and we discovered that the wandering patrols respawn as you move peices in the puzzle, so work in the least amount of steps possible.
After that, there was another puzzle to clear and onto the boss. The boss, a drow scorpion at CR26 was a big heavy hitter. Hits me twice and I'm down, though being a squishy at 152hp, that's not hard to do. Oh, by then, to take care of the respawns, our rogue/ranger had switched over to a lvl 16 fod sorc. We just couldn't take care of the boss at all enough to solve the puzzle at the end (thanks to looking up the forum posts about the quest).
We now at least know where the pitfalls are in the quest, and how to efficiently run it better next time, besides having a full party. It was fun though, and while unsuccessful, a great learning experience.
