Happy New Year~
It is now 2009, and once again the ritual of having to remember to change the date on written documents begins, where people will be making mistakes and having to scrub out the 08 or attempt to make it into an 09.
For me, I spent the NY Eve with some friends in a small gathering before heading out to Maroubra Beach to watch the first sunrise of the new year come through. The gathering also involved heading into the city to watch the 9pm fireworks at Darling Harbour before coming back since the crowd crush for the midnight ones were huge, and by the looks of them as usual, not really up to the hype.
While I don't think I'm that much of a killjoy when it comes to these kinds of things, I appreciate fireworks but I don't go ga-ga over them, thus when the New Years celebrations come through, I don't really see what is so particularly special about them, especially to spend a lot of money on them also. ~shrug~ That is just me. We came back, made some food for a super late dinner/supper of sorts to keep us going through the night, then played some Wii/Stepmania before heading out to the beach.
The sunrise takes a while to come, but once it starts, it does move pretty quick. The tide was coming in and then out while we waited in the 4am darkness. While they say first light is at 5:18am or so today, I wonder what consititutes "first light" since there was quite a bit of light before then already..... Then the sun peered over the horizon as an angry orange hue, getting brighter and bigger as the minutes ticked on by.
The group headed to the MacDonalds on Anzac Parade at Kensington for some breakfast for those that wanted it before we kind of split and we our own ways. I drove a few people home before getting home and then once I had something light to eat, I crashed out for some sleep. Right now I've had about 5 hours of sleep in blocks (woke up three times) and feel much better, still feeling a bit out of it though, but much better than before ^_^
Tomorrow though, I do head off to Brisbane for an engagement party, so this time of year is very busy for me XD In any case, Happy New Year~!
