More Television (Spoilers?)

I watched two television shows, though I would call them mini-series more than a show I guess. They are both BBC productions and only three episodes each, which was disappointing because they held a lot more promise. Even doubling it to six episodes would have been nice, but I guess that is all the plot held or funding.

The first one I started watching was called Moses Jones. It's about this detective from a particular African nation who is asked to investigate the murder of an elderly man who is from the same country. While Moses is a true bred Londoner, the people in charge think it would help if he went into the investigation and asked "his people".

There is quite a bit of violence in the episodes, you get to see a little bit of gore in a sense, and the mystery involves former political members and prominent soldiers and a brothel/spa. It is quite nitty-gritty and dark in some aspects but very well done I thought. The conclusion was a bit abrupt to me when the police manage to catch the ex-child soldier who goes insane, I'm sure they could have made it last longer.

The second one that I watched was called WhiteChapel. This one is much more interesting compared to Moses Jones in the sense that the series is about a Jack the Ripper copycat. It too is only three episodes and I wasn't aware that it would be that short when I started watching it.

It follows a newly promoted Detective Inspector who was assigned to babysit a squad initially as his superiors were trying to elevate him as fast as possible up the ladder. This goes off the rails when their squad is assigned to look into a murder of a woman in the WhiteChapel area. What happens during the routine investigation is that they discover they have a copycat who is replicating as best as possible the Jack the Ripper murders.

I am kind of interested in that part of history, because they never caught Jack the Ripper, and there are many conspiracies regarding it. The series talks about it briefly also. They do eventually manage to use modern techniques and technologies to track down a suspect and prevent him from making another kill, to which, thus ends the series. Quite short and abrupt also.

At the moment, I've also started to watch a few others too which I might mention later.
