NDT results for Goro Nickel

I went out to Wetheril Park today to the NDT (non destructive testing) facility called Pearl Street to pick up and examine the x-rays and collect the cable joints. The drive out from my place was fairly easy, nothing major, no traffic hassles.

When I got there, I picked up a packet with all of the negatives in it, and then proceeded to look through them on their lightbox. I had brought my camera setup with me to take photos of the negatives for digital purposes.

We had several of the samples, including our lab made samples and the results were interesting. The damage on the ones from site were to be expected, but our main interest was in those we had made. The perfect made joints were exactly like that. Perfect. They looked really good and appeared as expected. The other ones that we deliberately rigged, were interesting. They did not show the defects as we had expected, but they did show some interesting patterns of mini lines or void spaces. While not consistent with what we saw in New Caledonia, they could still be problematic if they were in cable joints that would be electrified.

I took the pictures so tomorrow I'll go over them with the people at uni. Not really sure what will be said about it though.
