Today, as I write this, has been a long day. It will be tomorrow by the time I finish this, so the events will technically become 'yesterday'.
It started at 6am roughly when the household occupants, except for one, work up to prepare. Since all three groomspersons were staying in the same household, along with the groom, they were up to prepare quite early. Showers to be had, grooming (no pun intended) getting dressed and so forth in preparation for the 9am wedding ceremony start. Breakfast was bacon and eggs with toast and tea, and we set off the fire alarm with something but definitely not smoke since nothing was burnt.
Thus the long day began. It wasn't too far a trip down to the little area in a park in Fig Tree Pocket where the ceremony was held by the waterside. A small gathering of approximately forty of so people were there to bear witness to the procedings. Thee bride arrived in a car, beautifully dressed as she should have been, and made her way down to where the celebrant and groom party was. The ceremony was reasonably lengthed with some readings from two other people and some nice words from the celebrant. Their vows were also very nice, reflecting their hearts and emotions for each other with their charactertistic personalities that I know of.
There was a lot of photos being taken by the professional photographers (two of them) and interestingly they used what appeared to be both digital and film camera setups. I think I took a heck of alot more photographs than they did, but I knew I had the memory cards to burn space on and spare backup batteries also. I'm sure their skills and lenses were better, but at least I can compensate with quantity if not quality lol.
When the bridal party and other photos were being taken, we got asked to move to the reception area where some morning tea was on offer, before then people started to arrive for the lunch reception held at the hall of the Fig Tree Pocket school. There was about 120 guests for the lunch reception and it was very well prepared and catered for, much impressed. The food was very nice, with a pesto pasta (shell pasta), an apple cranberry salad, a pumpkin and basil with ricotta salad, some cold cuts of meat and some kind of mixed vegetable and meat patty. There was plenty of wine, and a home-made fruit punch recipe for drinks, and beers for those who wanted it, along with the champagne during the toasting and speeches.
The speeches were well done I thought, not too long, and fairly entertaining with our MC also directing everything efficiently. There was cake, tea/coffee, dancing before the customary bouqet throwing and then their departure, which finished the days proceedings.
Post wedding, I then had dinner and drinks out at the Hilton Hotel in the city with my school friends, which some of them I had not caught up with in a long time, about seven years in fact for one of them. Dinner was a little pricey, being at the Hilton and all, with the portion size obviously also on the smaller size. I had a Noosa Prawns and Scallopss with Bush Tomato Chutney and Pumpkin Risotto, which was $32, very nice indeed, with the prawns and scallops skewered on lemongrass, laid ontop of the risotto and two small cherry tomatos also. Not particvularly filling ordinarily, but throw in a small bread roll, and having a largish reception lunch it was fine. After dinner drinks, I had one cocktail of a Strawberry Shortcake ($16 on the books, but came to $18.40 due to surcharge of the public holiday weekend and trading hours). We had some good conversation before getting a taxi back.
I've just finished downloading off my memory cards the photos I took today, and it comes to 568 over the last bit of time from when I arrived in Brisbane until now. Not too bad really. At some point, I may put some of the better ones up on my flickr for those interested. I don't know how I'll pass them onto those in Brisbane, but that can be worked out at some stage.
