I've been socialising a lot lately, perhaps because I've thrown some inhibition out to live life better and more, at the cost of my wallet, or perhaps it is because I will be away for nearly a month in the US and not see some people for a while.
In any case, I went out on Monday night, which is I guess semi unusual for me of the past but more acceptable for me of the present. We went (four of us) to see the movie in my previous post (Let the Right One In) in Paddington at the Palace Academy Twins, before wandering back down Oxford St to have dinner at Betty's Soup Kitchen. I've only been there once before, and I recommended it as something decent and cheapish. Last time I was there I had the lamb stew and this time I had their Monday night deal (Either Soup/Pasta or Pie with Salad for $10) where I had a mince and vegetable pie and the salad. The others had a pumpkin soup, beef stroganoff and a lamb stew. I think their menu stays pretty much the same, which for a place like that is perfectly fine when reputation is based upon such "home cooked" meals. We also received bread with the meal which was as great as ever, so much that we got a second helping of the bread for $1 each. The food was very good. Smaller sized portion than what you might find elsewhere but the quality was good.
Post dinner, three of us went for drinks down in the city, the other had work and had to go home, though we didn't get home that late anyway. We originally were going to go check out the 3 Monkeys Bar on George St, but someone was wearing thongs and wouldn't have been allowed due to the dress code policy there, so we went up the road to the Albion Place Hotel instead. They checked our ID cards and no issues with dress. I bought the round of drinks, not entirely sure why but I just felt like doing so, with a Asahi SuperDry beer, a Japanese Mule cocktail and for myself a Impact Rush Punch cocktail. Mine tasted a bit like cough syrup and Allens gummi/snakes flavour with a bit of fruitiness from the passionfruit, pineapple, lemon and lime with crushed mint, strange at first but did end up growing upon my tastebuds. The Japanese Mule was a lime and pineapple mix with some spirits of sorts, which the drinker said tasted like grass at first but also grew on them.
We talked about lots of things, ranging from relationships/girls/boys, Kendo stuff, politics within the club and what not before heading up to Town Hall station and catching trains just past 10pm. I got home just past 11pm so it wasn't too late a night out, didn't cost too much (just over a touch over $60 inclusive of train fare, movie, dinner n drinks) but besides the absolutely bucketing down weather, was lots of fun and finished the long weekend nicely.
Interestingly, some others who had been invited to see the movie who didn't come had been doing studying until the evening, where they then went to play games at Norita's and ice-cream at French Riviera also finished around 10pm and appeared to have caught the trains before ours, so we probably could have caught up with them in the city since Norita's was just down the same street as the 3 Monkeys Bar... but we didn't know ~shrug~.
