Lately, I have been obsessing over equipment. Those who have my FB will have known my rather strange commentary about wanting patrons, sponsorship, deliberation over equipment etc.
To inform those who don't, there is a thing called bow envy. In a way, it's kind of like penis envy for some guys (I have never had it), but I do get bow envy. When people turn up with new gear, it twinges your desire to keep up with the joneses, if you get what I mean.
Anyway, one of the guys in my club, who is kind of like my non-hostil arch nemesis (lol) recently got some new gear, and darnations, do I have a case of bow envy. Putting it into perspective, I used to shoot very gear to him, and I think that while yes, he is a better archer, he is kind of goal to aspire to. I know he trains harder than me, shoots more arrows than me etc, but at the same time, he doesn't work in a regular schedule, so his freedom to do that is better. Putting that aside however, his gear is very nice.
I haven't bought new gear, like capital equipment (non-consumables like fletches, arrows in part, nocks) in a very long time. Like... 4-5 years. Limbs, same situation. The advancement of technology in this time for archery is a lot. Of course, this is all justification talk lol, but, I had a go with his bow... and -_- makes me want even more.
~sigh~
Cost wise, it actually isn't too bad. New riser goes for $1k, new limbs go for $900 odd, then postage. I have money in my nest-egg savings, but at the moment, I am paying off the last instalment of an aeroplane ticket, and if I was to save up, it would be probably another month and a half before I could afford it outright without credit-carding it. I wish I had sponsorship, or patrons, or something. My friend got his gear through the love and generosity of his friends and family who paid for it as Christmas and birthday goodies.
I'm sure my friends care about me, but probably not to the point of pulling a good $2k (rounding up here haha) for me. Though, I must admit, the people I am with, when enough are gathered, they do manage to get $300+ easily for birthdays.... on two separate occasions that I know of... But in any case, it's not something I would expect happen for me, it's just one of those things that never do/does.
I also don't shoot high enough to get any sponsorship from companies or shops ._.
I did come up with a funky idea of getting money.
I will shoot an double Olympic Round (2x 72 arrows @ 70m, 122cm face, for a total of 1440 points).
People pledge money before the shoot, and they can come watch/support/barrack/heckle me during the shoot.
Post shoot, calculate the money owed, and arrangements for money to be paid/transferred.
Of course, how much money is pledged is up to debate and variable lol.
I was originally thinking 1c/point, then 10c/arrow that scores a 10, and also another 10c/arrow that scores an X.
With that in mind, if I scored a perfect 1440 with 144 X's, then the max payout would be $43.20 per person.
Of course, I don't shoot perfect scores. If I was shooting very well, I'd be doing perhaps a 1200 score, so it would probably more around $20 per person lol.... I'd still need 100 people pledging for that to pay off.
Well, nothing stops me from daydreaming :P
