I bought one of these kits from PCCaseGear.com, located in Victoria, for $25.00, with combined shipping for other bits for my desktop, but thats another story entirely.
I was after a clear hardcase for my refurbished 4th Gen Nano that my brother had generously bought me as an early Christmas Present. It's a beautiful green colour, and unlike my previous 1st Gen Nano I had, it's actually nice to look at in style and shape, thus getting a clear case was what I decided upon.
Looking at the options on eBay, they all looked kind of dodge to me, so when I found this one on PCCaseGear, I thought, eh, why not. My previous case was a faux leather magnetic fliptop one, which is pretty much near dead now, and it was $15, so $10 more for something half decent wasn't too much of a push on the budget.
So, I got it in the mail and popped it open. The clear case is a two halves construction with a "slide" open and close mechanism. It's a very snug construction, mis-alignment of the rails for sliding the halves together will probably mean you've destroyed it by the looks of it, but due to tight manufacturing tolerances by the looks of it, it's hard to mis-align it without putting quite a bit of force into it. You can feel how it should move when you pull the two halves apart, any more putting it back together means you're possibly doing something wrong.
It comes with a single screen protector, which you are meant to put on before enclosing the iPod, as well as a wheel protector, which, you could apply afterwards if you wanted to, but that would take some skill. I did both the screen and wheel before slipping it into the case. With the case shut and "locked" (it clips in with a very solid "click", and I don't know how much force would be required to separate the halves again since the halves weren't clicked in when you get it), it looks really nice. Of course, once you start to get scratches and scuffs, it might not look so good, but it's still a protective case.
It also comes with a 3.5mm jack extension, because with the case on, any non-iPod headphones won't fit, a data port plug, to protect the data port from dust etc, a standard iPod dock adaptor (which you would normally get with an iPod anyway), and a cute "video" stand, which is designed to hold the iPod nano at a comfortable viewing angle on a flat surface for your video viewing pleasure. Neat accessories to make it complete. Oh, I don't think it waterproofs your iPod, just had to say it, so don't go splashing or dunking your iPod into liquids....
I just popped it open again to see how easy it was to open, and it didn't take a lot of force, but it was held quite firmly. Closing it back up again, it still gave the very satisfying click.
Well, it looks good, functions well, has a few neat accessories. It won't break the bank to buy (though shipping might lol), so if you have the need for a case, take a look at them. Their website can be found via google, and they do support the whole iPod range.
Both thumbs up ~ d ^_^ b~
