It has been a little while since my last post, so I thought I should update thus not all of my readers would abandon me, if they haven't already.
Lets start with the not so interesting bits first.
Paperwork. Well, having done two weeks now at my "new" job, where I am technically not even officially employed yet (yes, naughty) I have produced quite a bit of paper, and will be doing more over the coming weeks and months. I have been developing protocols and proceedural checks, to ensure that what we plan to test in the coming weeks and months is going to provide us with the data that we are after, and will have some kind of integrity with it. Not actually that hard to plan, but to implement is hard, especially when scientific methodologies have to be compromised in the world of industry. When you consider that for statistical development of a bell curve and good standard deviations require n=25, when you are told that the maxiumum n can be is 3, it makes you really cringe to draw "conclusive" results.... Of course, they actually know it is conclusive because they've done more than n=25 runs in the past, they just didn't actually log the data at the time. Good thinking. The reason why it's being done now is because they have a official purpose to meet, and also it's time to up the market penetration so having numbers is always good for sales purposes.
This then leads me to the peregrination. I was told that I'd get to travel. Hmm, looked forward to some travel. Well, now I get why they told me that most of them hate the travel. Up on a Monday morning, back on a Friday night, weekend back home, rinse, repeat. Doesn't sound too bad right? Well yes, until you factor in that I shall be potentially doing this cycle from next week. excluding a holiday I am taking over Christmas and New Years, then from when I get back, to mid-April. Yeap, a good four months of out and back. Living the suitcase life. To make things more entertaining at least, I'm also travelling away for my holiday, so I will have five months of travel. Hmmm, fun.
So, thats work in the industry lane.
With parties, I went to two. One a birthday, the other a 21st birthday.
The first one was a combined birthday party for two girls in the same family, but of different age bands, none of them being a major (18, 21st, 30th etc), so it was combined to bring a larger crowd and what not. It was advertised as a food test, and it didn't disappoint. There was a lot of food, and for entertainment there was cards, foosball, Guitar Hero and Singstar. A good group in size, and some interesting conversation to be had. And, oh my, the chocolate mousse.... ~thumbs up~ totally awesome. I also came home with a six pack of Hollandia beer because someone brought a slab of it, but the hosts don't really drink much, let alone beer, so I took some home to help out lol. Hollandia is actually a higher % alcohol than VB (Victorian Bitter) at 5% vs 4.8%, but it is probably about the same level of bitter. But it's quite a light coloured beer though.
So, then the 21st birthday party. I dropped by the end of Kendo after work on Friday, didn't train. I was going to, but then got caught up in some rehersals for one of my PhD students upgrade seminar. I ended up hearing it twice because I heard it with him once to give him feedback so he could fix it up before presenting it to our entire group and supervisor, then sat through the second time to see if he managed to pick up what was suggested. I think he did okay, he'll be fine so long as he doesn't rush it and calms down when he gets to the tricky parts.
So then, I get stuck in traffic on my way out to Burwood where the event was being held, but because of the time I got there, it was fairly late. I got a little bit of food to eat (some sausages, chicken wings, bread and softdrink), and then had some conversation with a few people I didn't know, taught someone how to tie a tie (with amusing results), played one hand of Mahjong, and then went home. They actually went to Karaoke, but I didn't feel like spending more money in the situation than I already had done so. While I shouldn't really gripe, I put a bit of effort into things, only to really not see much occur... oh, there was cake, I had some blackforest from Breadtop by the look of the box the cake had come in. So, they went to K, I went home.
And thus, that was pretty much the extent of things in the time gone by.
Comments in general.
Juice. I will never look at it the same again. Now, I will always ponder certain aspects about it depending on how I aquire the juice that I am drinking or seeing.
Industry is going to be an interesting experience.
Resveratrol is good for you kids, eat your fruits and nuts.
People in China are suspicious when it comes to online journals, or Zooster online reference manager is suspect. Either that, or I co-incidentally managed to lock out the entire univeristy access to ACS publications LOL (not so long story, but if you ask me for it, I'll tell you what happened).
So, the next time I update, it may be a little while from now again since I'll probably be working moreso, and well, confidentially confidentially and confidentially. Fun eh.
Oh.
Cloudy with a chance of meatballs - Awesome.
