New Job, New Beginnings

Well, I honestly can't say a lot about my new job at all.  There is so much confidentiality going on that it's like I'm self censoring lol.

What I can say from my first day's experience is: I had 5 meetings today, where the meetings only involved 3 other people.  Some singular person, some two people, some all four of us.  Thats a lot of meetings.  I am going to have a lot of reading to do.  Bleugh.

I'm a very hands on person, so it's hard to remain focussed and keep my attention going if I'm just reading and writing.  I anticipate it will be difficult indeed to stop my brain from shutting down when I'm not actually doing anything.  Problematic indeed.

The work environment is actually a little creepy.  It's not the people, it's the building.  There is this constant "howling" noise, which I think comes from the wind, but I don't know exactly how that works unless it is due to some kind of space in an atrium like void.... but... it's a constant howling with changing pitch and volume.  I can tell it's windy outside because of the tree tops moving around.  Other than that, it's okay.

I've been given a Lenovo Thinkpad SL500, all set up for me.  I have a restricted user account on it.  I hate the keyboard on it.  I keep hitting Capslock instead of shift, and instead of Ctrl, I'm hitting the Fn key.  I'm going to try an old USB iMac keyboard on it tomorrow and see if it's going to help, otherwise I'll have to get a cheap keyboard.  There is a moniter I could output to, except I can't seem to get it to output.  I might call the IT guy about it.  Other than that, it's a desk, which the only downside is that I have my back facing the hall space.  It's not like I'm going to be looking at porn, but I like to see people coming, and not have someone 'sneaking' up from behind.  There are 4 workspaces where I am, and the other person, she is facing the hall space.  I could try and shift, but my network socket is fixed -_-;

The atmosphere is relatively relaxed.  I can't complain too much.  Other than that, I'll just have to see how I go, and hope I don't faceplant into my keyboard at some point >_<;
