Sunday Recap
I didn't do too much on Sunday.
I played some games, and watched Shaolin Soccer a little after Ken had burnt it to CD from the copy I borrowed from Fengles.
Some friends that we knew from Brisbane came over for the afternoon and stayed for dinner too.
Katie (spelling?) and Charles.
She is a GP (general Practiciner doctor) and Charles is a Radiography Oncologist.
Both of them work at Westmead Hospital.
Had some interesting discussions about this and that, sport that I did, and then my Masters with the EMU, and the usages of electron Microscopes and so forth.
It was a ok afternoon and evening.
I also did some reading.
I borrowed the book from Julian.
Warning, contains spoiler material for the Book, Scarecrow by Matthew Reily!
The paragraph is contained in the stars.
******************
It's the continuation of his main character (with the exception of Contest) Shane Schoefield (spelling?). His code name is Scarecrow for a very unusual reason. He has two scars that run across vertically across both his eyelids and eyes, thus making him a very scarey man to look at, thus the scarecrow. And he usually wears reflective anti flash sunnies to hide his eyes. He is also a member of the US Special Forces Marines. And a damn good one, with his favourite item the MagHook (it's a gas propelled grappling hook that has a powerful electromagnet and reel mechanism, that can haul a man up the entire length of the cable).
The plot is that 15 men across the world are on a hit list, with $18.6 Million US for their heads, as a bounty. And Scarecrow is one of them. Across the book, he slowly learns why he and the other 14 are on the list, and it's a very interesting idea, and scarey to think that it is actually potentially possible as a mechnism.
However, even though the author answers this question in the back of the book as a appendix, I still don't think that Libby "Fox" Gant had to die. I mean, sure, it adds to Shane's anger, and gives him the dimension that a lot of authors don't give because they aren't willing to sacrifice characters like that. But even so, I didn't really like it. I guess I too was attached to her character, and it was very sad and wrenching to read of her death even though she is a ficticious character in books.

But it is a very good book, and if you have never read any of his books, then I would highly recommend you to read his books.
He has also written:
Ice Station
Temple
Contest
Area 7
