I attended a farewell dinner tonight for one of the Kendo people who is heading off to Japan for a year on exchange. We had dinner at this place downtown, towards the end of Dixon St, on the Darling Harbour side. It was cuisine from the Urghyr (I don't know the spelling exactly, I forgot it). It is from western/northern China, kind of Mongolian/-stahn countries (Afghanistan, Uzbekistan etc). The dishes were inherently asian, kind of chinese I guess but had more of a meat focus than vegetables, and spiced differently than to your standard chinese fair. It was nice, but the room was tiny to squash in 23 people... ended up being $30/each for a lot of food, which there was still quite a bit left.
Post food, we wandered around the Darling Harbour region and watched some fireworks going off. Not sure if they were for Moon Fesitval, for the Nepalese thingy that was going on down in Tuggernong Park, or just random fireworks, but they were nice in a small-scale manner of speaking.
We sat around one of the water fountains for ages, random chit-chat etc, though I was kind of being a 3rd wheel because the people around me in the group were all 'paired' up LOL, so I just sat there watching the stars, or listening to the water, until I decided to pull out my iPod and listen to that instead.
They were originally going to go to Karaoke, and then it got changed to having dessert or something at Capital Theatre area, but I was a bit tired from it all so I said my goodbyes to the people I had to, and caught a long train ride home.
It was an alright evening =)
