Friday, the great end of the week. For me yesterday, it was the start of the week because I actually had something to do....
I went into uni to do some SEM work for a client from Novagen. They were looking at some extracted yeast cells, hoping to use them as scaffolding for new drug delivery systems. The particles they were looking at weren't that interesting.... after looking around them for a while they wanted to see if we could look inside them, and so we hopped on the Philips Biofilter TEM. I haven't used this TEM in about six years, but the startup guide was pretty good and since I had been re-trained on the CM12 lately, the proceedure was practically the same since the CM12 is also a Philips made TEM. The samples were extra-ordinarily boring in the TEM too. LOL. Anyway, we had a discussion on the particle compositions, what they were hoping to see etc, and then sort of where to/what to go onto next for them if they wanted to have their questions answered appropriately. It wasn't a waste of time for them exactly, probably more for me since I could have been sleeping or something hahaha.
Kendo training was taken by our coach, he thought he had a cold for a while but once he got taken to the doctor by his wife, they found out he actually had springtime allergies LOL, so she being a pharmacy student got him some cheap generic anti-histamines. He came to training because he left his meds at home and he was sniffling and coughing and being bleary so his boss sent him home haha, he popped an anti-histamine and came to training LOL.
We did warmup (led by me as requested by the coach, I seem to be doing it often now...) and then our usual basics before going into waza training. We didn't actually do a lot of cuts, just a lot of kihon men cuts, and for the more advanced players we also did some small men cuts too. While we were doing small cuts though, I finished mine last because I have been slowing down my cuts these days to take more time in making good cuts instead of rushing through them. Once I had finished my small cuts though, I got asked to do another, and then another, and then another.... I didn't really know what he was watching for, or wanting to see from me... a little confusing... Jigeiko, and finished up training. After lining up etc, we normally gather around the coach to hear words of wisdom, thoughts and comments on everything. He said that as beginners, Kendo is a lot of hard work, it is boring because all you do is the same thing over and over and over again. But, once you learn the basics and you start to train in bogu, it becomes fun, it feels good and you learn differently. He then said, for beginner bogu players, and also more advanced players, we have to work on still many things, like power in our cuts. Then proceeded to say that Mr X had it, Mr Y had it, I had it, but not Mr Z... LOL I asked him afterwards also what was he looking for, and he said the power of my cuts in small cuts. He knows that I could do power in big cuts, but he wanted to see them in small cuts. I have it. But I need to still improve on speed, and distance. Nifty ^_^
I'm not entirely sure what has happened with my wrist on my left hand. I have mentioned it before I think, but it definitely is sore, so I've strained something there. I hope it's not too bad an injury but with no training this week, I will definitely let it rest up....
Post training, went down to Market City foodcourt for dinner. I got a kabab plate and got told that I looked very young like 19-20 years old... I won't go into how that happened, but I think I'm regressing in age~.... soon people will think I'm in highschool at this rate... Is it a good thing for guys to be thought to be younger than they are? I mean youthful appearances are one thing, but then about the maturity and respect is another... ...
During dinner though, I had some really fun conversation with a few people, and I got to know a little more about one of the new beginners. I am finding that I am being surrounded by more and more highly intelligent and interesting people, making me feel quite dumb and boring haha.
We had desserts at French Riviera and more conversation about gaming, manga, and general chit chat. Then I ended up driving some people to train stations and home.
I got home quite late LOL, like the latest I've been out in a very very long time, but it was fun, so well worth it =)
